The size of a company says very little about how it feels to be there. Excellent places exist on all spectrums of size and headcount. Growth itself is neither good nor bad, it’s the intention behind it that gives meaning.

To us, growth is simply a way to grant more opportunity to others.

Growth allows us the chance to be more generous, it allows us to do more of what we love and better serve those we care about. But growth should be done responsibly.

responsible growth happens when we keep asking the right questions

• does growth create opportunity without costing us integrity?
• does adding a person to the room make the room feel better?
• does growth add weight, or add relief?
• does growth grant us more freedom, or less?
• are we still feeling that sense of togetherness?
• are people better served?
• how’s the energy?
• are we happy?

so the question we keep getting: “how does Core look in 5 years?”

Well, we’re not sure. Because Core should emerge from the right behaviors. It’s not some top-down thing we’re pushing for. Growth metrics would cause us to lose focus on the right behaviors that got us here.

The goal is not to win, but to continue. And we’ll feel successful when we continue holding true to all the above. We were happy as a team of 10, we’re perfectly happy with our current size, and we’ll also hold our doors open for excellent people.
